Overview:

One year on, different nations have had varying degrees of success dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2020, the construction industry in Singapore contracted by approximately one-third on a year-on-year basis. The Government continues to implement relief measures to support the industry but there are clearly challenges ahead.

There continue to be disputes referred to adjudication. Hence, proper preparation of and response to payment claims and keeping abreast with the latest legal developments remains critical. This seminar aims to reinforce important aspects of the Security of Payment Act (“SOP Act”) and recent case law developments, and will cover the following:

  • Reflections on adjudication disputes in 2020 and 2021
  • Section 17 of the Act and case law commentary
  • The importance of termination and insolvency issues on adjudication disputes
  • The right to pursue progress payment and adjudication upon termination
