Reimagining Sungei Kadut : Visions for industrial brownfield regeneration in Singapore and Beyond
Like Singapore, many cities face a common challenge in transforming and upgrading brownfield sites. Sungei Kadut is one of Singapore’s pioneering industrial estates, whose growth and evolution has aligned with Singapore’s change from third world to first.
Manufacturing has rapidly transformed, with even more emergent opportunities as we accelerate towards adoption of I4.0 and the necessary shift upwards the talent value chain. By promoting cleaner and greener manufacturing, it creates an even more sustainable environment in the City in Nature, ultimately benefitting Singaporeans and visitors, providing exciting and attractive job, investment and leisure opportunities.
Singapore’s land scarcity forces us to constantly innovate and look ahead in the way we masterplan and build, every square inch to its maximum potential. With over 500+ hectares to re-develop, this re-imagnation presents significant market potential for new capabilities in this field, such as designing integrated end-to-end models, climate resilience and environmentally responsive urban planning, as well as adaptive land use policy and urban design guidelines, that signify new models and capabilities to share and export.
The companion exhibition to this seminar/talk showcases the rejuvenation masterplan for Sungei Kadut. In this talk, with our partners in the planning, architecture and academic fraternity, we wish to share and elaborate upon these visions and re-imaginations.
