Aesthetics is considered as a significant aspect for architectural works. And with tiles, which comes with endless designs, on top of other factors, such as durability, maintenance, indoor air quality, water resistance etc., it provides the opportunity to achieve the desired results effortlessly. That is one of the main reason why tiles have been one of the preferred choice of many architects for usage in their projects.
The tile industry is regularly flooded with new types and designs of tiles. One of the main interest of architects is to source for uniqueness in their works, and have value creation in the process of design procurement for their projects. And with greater awareness and interest in environmental issues, the tile industry is moving towards facilitating the contribution of sustainable products within the built environment.
The recent popping floor tiles cases have brought attention to the importance to utilise/specify the compatible type of tile adhesives. As Singapore market is moving towards to new construction methodologies, it is critical to understand how the full range of tile adhesives reacts differently to different scenarios and type of tiles to minimise any potential complications. With new specification guidelines from different international bodies, it promotes consistency and standards for the industry to adhere to.

1st Topic: “Let’s Talk About Tiles”
Ceramic Tiles have come a long way since the 1960s where 1cm x 1 cm mozaics were the commonly used material. Today, with new tiles technology, sizes are as large as 1.6m x 3.2m and manufacturers are able to emulate natural stones like marble and granite to metallic finishes. This talk will trace the evolution of technologies and introduce the latest trends in design.
Topic 2: Tile Fixing Adhesives Solutions – Care & Adhesives
Key objectives are to highlight the latest requirements from international bodies in regards to tile adhesives. Characteristics of different tile adhesives and compatibility to different tiles will be shared, and the care and treatment that are done or can be done to tiles prior to tiling. The various types possible complications and its solutions shall also be discussed and recommended.

Ms June Tay has accumulated more than 15 years of her experience from various functions across different major corporations in the Drymix industry; From Research and Development to On-site Engineer to Architect Specification to Business Development, June is well-versed in the field of Tile Adhesives, Waterproofing, Plastering, Flooring, and other technical products.
Mr Lawrence Lim, Stork Building Concepts Pte Ltd
Mr Lawrence Lim was primarily involved in management, marketing and product development of these factories. He sat in the technical sub-committee that reviews and formulate the Singapore Standards SS483 – Ceramic Tiles – Definition, Classification, Characteristics and Marking. Currently, he is the marketing agent and consultant to several Italian and Spanish Tiles manufacturers for Singapore and other Asian countries.
