The Lee Kuan Yew (LKY) Scholarship is synonymous with both prestige and a willingness to serve Singapore. Set up in 1991 by the Tanjong Pagar Citizens’ Consultative Committee with funding from the public to commemorate the contributions made by Mr Lee Kuan Yew to Singapore, it marks Singapore’s continuous effort to recognise outstanding individuals with the aptitude and inclination to contribute to our society.

Since its inception, many Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship holders have gone on to make significant contributions across varied fields including the Public Service, business, law, medicine, the arts, and academia.

Eligibility

Applicants, who must be Singapore citizens, will be assessed holistically. This includes their academic achievements and track record of leadership and service (e.g. volunteer work, social enterprise, contributions to cultural, scientific and/or academic communities etc.) within or beyond their profession. There are no restrictions on the course of study.

Terms and Conditions

Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship recipients can pursue postgraduate studies overseas or locally to develop their potential as leaders in their respective fields. There are no restrictions on the course of study.

While there is no bond associated with the Scholarship, Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship recipients are expected to actively contribute towards the betterment of Singapore, Singaporeans and the community.

Scholarship recipients will receive a one-off sum of S$10,000 and an annual allowance of:

  • S$50,000 for private sector awardees; or
  • S$10,000 for public sector awardees, if they are concurrently sponsored by their agencies.

Application Process

Application for the 2018 LKY Scholarship will open from 1 November 2017 to 29 December 2017. Applications should be submitted via theLKY Scholarship application portal.

Shortlisted applicants will be required to sit for psychometric tests in February 2018. Applicants will be notified by March 2018. The interview will be held in April 2018.
