Participation

3.1 Participation Requirements

a. SIA Fellow and Corporate Members:

All SIA Fellow and Corporate Members are invited to submit projects for selection in all Categories A to G.

b. SIA Associate Members:

SIA Associate Members may submit projects for selection only in Category F (Interior Architecture).

c. No Limit of Entries by one entity:

There is no limit on the number of entries that can be submitted under a company or name.

d. All entries/submission must adhere to the Awards Terms and Conditions.

3.2 Project Eligibility

a. The projects submitted must have been completed during the last 7 years and with TOP obtained latest by 1 July 2021

b. A project only needs to be entered once in a preferred category. The Jury may exercise discretion in awarding the project in another category, as they deem appropriate.

c. Entries that have previously won a Design Award / an Honourable Mention / a Merit Award in the past cycles are not eligible for entry.

d. Entries that have been previously submitted in the past cycles are not eligible for entry.

e. Architects / Designers (where applicable) of Shortlisted Finalists shall present their project to the judges during the virtual presentation site visit. It is the participant’s responsibility to obtain the requisite consent from building owner to enter the competition, if required and to access the building, if necessary.

f. Failure to comply with these requirements may be grounds for disqualification.

3.3 Submission Requirements

a. All submission materials shall be in English.

b. This is an anonymous awards competition. Anonymity is to be observed in all content submitted including the images, photographs, videos, project description and all remaining text.

c. Submissions which do not meet or comply with the submission guidelines or found to contain identifying sign or mark that may, in any way, contribute to identifying entrant shall be disqualified. These projects can re-enter in the next cycle based on prevailing terms and conditions.

d. Submission of all entries must be completed by 9 September 2021, 12 noon (GMT +8). Incomplete submission will not be considered. Entrants must submit their submissions to the following website:

e. No submission (partial or full) will be accepted after 9 September 2021, 12 noon (GMT +8).

f. The Institute is not liable for any Internet or web disruptions that may affect the timeliness of submissions.

3.4 Submission Material​

The submission information includes

  4. Long Project Description (Maximum 300 words)

  8. Project Address
  9. Floor Area (GFA in sqm)

  11. 1 Hero Image w/ captions
  12. Gallery Images (12 including plans, sections, elevations and other drawings) w/ captions
  13. Key products and suppliers
  14. Photography credits
a. 1 Hero Image and a maximum of 12 representative project images with captions (drawings and photographs) to be uploaded individually (in jpg format).

The Project Description comprises the following:

a. Setting out client’s brief,

b. Planning constraints,

c. Materials and method of construction,

d. Any other noteworthy design challenges and features

The 50-word project summary will be used as the project captions for the SIA Architectural Design Awards 2021 website.

a. In lieu of a physical site visit, the shortlisted firm have the following options for their presentation:

i. Produce a short video (max duration 3mins) and follow up with a zoom presentation. The total presentation duration will be 8 minutes.

ii. Conduct video conferencing site walk with live narration (max duration 8 minutes)

iii. A combination of (i) and (ii) with the combined duration of 8 minutes.

b. The presentation should demonstrate the project’s context, narrative, background, architecture & spatial quality, materiality and detailing.

c. The Jury will follow up with a 7-minute Q&A.

Where the project is carried out in association with another firm, due recognition must be accorded to the other firm. However, the participant must be the principal / main architect of the project submitted, a major contributor to the project and be an SIA member. The entrant shall be solely responsible for ensuring the submission is agreed and consented by the authors, including joint authors, before making the submission.

The project team and main material suppliers who played a major role will be required to be identified at submission stage and, if awarded, may be credited in selected write-ups and press releases.

a. Ensure that all information and spelling is correct in the forms as this information may appear in publications and on the plaques. Any errors on your part will be corrected at your expense. The onus of submitting the most updated and complete information pertaining to the submission (e.g. project information and consultant details) lies with the submitting party. Any missed information may result in disqualification.

b. SIA accepts no responsibility for publication of incorrect spelling or inaccurate information supplied with the entry.

3.5 Participation Fee

The participation fee is as follows:

1st entry

$450 +GST (i.e. $481.50)

Each subsequent entry

$300 +GST (i.e. $321)

Note: Entrants need only pay once for each discrete project and that project may be entered into multiple categories that are relevant. Payments are to be made together with the online submission. Acceptable mode of payment is with credit cards (VISA/Mastercard/AMEX) or Paypal.

3.6 No Refund Policy

Entries are not eligible for a refund if they do not meet the requirements of the jury, withdrawn after the closing date, or disqualified.

3.7 Duties & Obligation of Entrants

Participation in the SIA Architectural Design Awards implies that unconditional acceptance of the contents of the Awards Terms and Conditions.

a. SIA Fellow / Corporate Members must be registered with the Board of Architects, Singapore, with a current Practising Certificate (a copy to be uploaded as part of the submission). This is applicable for submission in Categories A, B, C, D, E and G.

b. All participants/partners/directors of participating firms must have no arrears with the Institute.

c. Each participant is duty- and ethics-bound to ensure his/her submission materials are authorised, and there shall be no copyrights or ownership issues with any other party/-ies related to the project/s submitted and the materials contained therein. All permissions to disclose information, copyrights, enter competition, use of information for publication etc. from the owners, clients and project consultant team are to be obtained by the entrant. SIA bears no responsibilities for agreements on non-disclosure and copyright between architect, their owners and/or project consultant team.

d. The Architect of the Shortlisted Finalists shall present the projects to the Jury Panel during the video interview.

e. All participants are not permitted to publish the results prior to the notification of the Jury’s final decision and official announcements by SIA. The Institute reserves the right to disqualify any entry which does not comply with the requirements.

f. All announced winners for the awards are required to participate in media interviews, public exhibitions, SIA held seminars and showcase sessions to present the ideas encapsulated within the design. Failure to participate in these events may be grounds for disqualification.
