In August 2020, when the world was going through the COVID crisis, SIA faced a leadership transition crisis – then President Chee Huang had to step down for his office work and the President position was vacant, with the 1st VP then opting to continue to run in the 2020 election as 1st VP. I took a life-changing decision to step up as President. I knew it would be challenging, but with the strong support of my Council team, we have made great strides in the past six months. Our focus has been on recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, while making the profession stronger. We have engaged with the relevant authorities to extend grants and incentives for Architects.
My experience as an Architect has taught me that to practise successfully, we need to take charge but also be collaborative with the rest of the industry. I have adopted this belief in my leadership at SIA, and also previously in my external engagements with BCA, Enterprise Singapore and Singapore Polytechnic. We need to be the shining light not just for our profession, but for the whole built industry.
Please support me in this coming term, as we have much more to do. I have so much more in me – and my team – to serve you, our SIA member, our profession, and our industry.
