Thank You, Members ... Theodore Chan, Immediate Past President

Dear Members,

At last evening’s AGM a new council was elected into office, with Mr. Ong Tze Boon as our new President. I will be your Immediate Past President.

Thank you for the wonderful support extended to me as SIA President during the past 3 council years. Your support has been a great source of encouragement and motivation for the initiation and implementation of many programmes and events as well as in addressing the many challenges confronting the profession. Please continue to give Mr. Ong similar support, if not greater, so that together we will bring the architectural profession to greater heights.

Few of life’s endeavours are accomplished alone but through the collective efforts and contributions of many. The Institute’s success hitherto has been attributed to the involvement, participation and contributions of our members in particular, augmented by our friends, government officials, other professionals and organisations in both the built environment and the design sector. I urge all members to play an active role in the Institute, to build an even stronger SIA.

I call on all members to encourage your colleagues who are not SIA Members, especially the younger architects, to join SIA, be part of the architectural fraternity to participate in sharing and exchanging views as well as influencing the direction in the development of architectural profession, to be part of the collective voice and contribute to the betterment of the profession.

To our younger architects, you will be the next generation to carry the torch to lead the profession to greater heights. The development of the profession cannot be left to chance but must be driven by people with the passion and the vision to see architecture as a key contribution to making Singapore a great city to live, work and play. The future of the profession is in your hands; the profession itself has to ensure its own future and you can play your part to contribute to the renewal and regeneration for the profession.

It has been a great privilege for me to serve you as President this past 3 years and I will always treasure this experience. And If I have inadvertently aggrieved any party in anyway during the course of my duty, please accept my sincerest apologies. Once again, please accept my heartfelt thanks, for your support, encouragement, and most importantly, your friendship!
