Since the Inaugural Annual Construction Law Updates seminar in January 2011, SCL (Singapore) has organised an annual update which has been well-received as a key landmark in each year's construction law-related training  calendar.
 
SCL (Singapore) is pleased to present its must-attend annual overview of key legal issues affecting the construction law industry in Singapore this past year.
 
Our distinguished speakers, Mr. Edwin Lee and Mr. Ian de Vaz, will discuss the recent developments in adjudication under the Security of Payment (SOP) Act and other developments in construction law and recent cases in Singapore.

4. SCL(S) Construction Expertise 101  (5.30pm - 8:30pm,  21, 23, 28, 30 March 2017 & 4 April 2017, Royal Palm, 6 Eu Tong Sen Street, #04-86/87, The Central (Clarke Quay), Singapore 059817)

Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam on 30th October 2014 (then also the Minister of Finance) at the Inaugural Singapore Productivity and 20th Business Excellence Awards Ceremony said:

Singapore’s Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon, during the opening of the Legal Year 2016, made mention of a possible accreditation to recognise lawyers who have achieved excellence in selected areas of specialisation including construction practitioners, as Singapore strives to export its expertise across the region. A committee led by Justice Quentin Loh is currently looking into the viability of implementing this for construction lawyers as a pilot project.

SCL(S), as a follow-on from its highly successful Engineering 101 course (2010-2015), embarks on a new programme ‘Construction Expertise 101’ to provide an understanding and appreciation of the key disciplines in the Singapore construction industry. Conducted over 2 years, the programme will be conducted over 5 evening sessions per year with one discipline per session:

During the 1st year (2017), we cover the following disciplines:

  • Architecture
  • Land Surveying
  • Building Contracting
  • Quantity Surveying
  • Construction Claims Consultancy

Each evening session of 2 hours is intended to discuss and cover identical aspects of each discipline:
