The Svarga Residence is a refreshing piece of architecture that challenges and reimagines the original Balinese villa prototype, while maintaining rootedness to its local context with details and materials true to its locale.
Its organization is unconventional, yet practical and functional. The S-shaped layout of the massing creates a front entry court and a rear private water court that are interesting and contextual.
Spatially, the design produces spaces without definite borders. which foster a communal living experience downstairs.
Considerable skillset is showcased in how the essence of the original Balinese dwelling is retained, through integration of courtyards, reinterpretation of the hatched roof forms and open spaces.
The deliberate expression of the three separate villas through strong composition of materiality adds interest and meaning. The purposeful pitched roofs of the three villas in contrast to the flat roof S-shaped volume below attenuate the shared and private spaces, connected by the roof gardens of greenery.
